A Woman’s Choice?
(Connie LaPointe April 2026)
When I was experiencing my fourth pregnancy, back in 1975, I went to my doctor’s office to start the care of my next baby. I was told that I was indeed pregnant and the woman doctor said she was sorry for me! She proceeded to tell me that nobody can handle four kids! (Not the happy attitude I was expecting from a doctor??) Then she went on telling her “captive audience”–ME–why this pregnancy was a big mistake! “Don’t you love your three other kids!?! They will all hate having a baby stealing their mom’s attention from them! AND how can you possibly afford so many kids? Also, how will you be able to have the energy and time to take good care of another one?!!” (As I sat there wondering WHY she was so negative!) etc. etc. etc. etc.!
When she took a breath from reciting her “list” I finally had a chance to speak: “You do know that I’m married and my husband supports us.” She ignored my comment as irrelevant, and continued her barrage from her notebook. Then she added that my husband will probably leave me if I continue adding another dependent to his list of financial drains! And: “Haven’t you ever heard of birth control?? Aren’t you a modern woman??” I then caught on to where she was going with this when she shut her notebook loudly and said, “I will get you an abortion. I’ll be right back with the papers!” (In her Doctor’s orders voice and walked out.) (I WAS MAD)
Where was my choice?? By the time she got back with the “papers,” all I could say-with clenched teeth was a bitter NO! (Doc left quickly) Then I got dressed, went out and told the receptionist (loudly so the others in the waiting room could hear) “Don’t ever give me that doctor again! She wanted to kill my baby, not take care of him!”
The baby–now 50–turned out to be a cute, smart, talented, well-beloved by the whole family and neighborhood son and he does so much good in the world BECAUSE: “God don’t make junk.”
Moms:
Don’t buy the LIES! Don’t abort your joy! None of the doctor’s lies came true!

My mom is getting older so I started asking her to write down the stories she tells at family get-togethers. This is one of them; I thought it worth giving some publicity.
